The 2024-2025 Calabasas Cross Country (XC) team demonstrated determination and growth throughout a competitive season. With a packed schedule featuring elite-level meets and league challenges, the Coyotes made significant strides, culminating in a standout performance at the CIF postseason. Their continued success underscores the program’s steady rise in competitive stature.

Season Highlights

ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational (Sat, Aug 31): The team gained early-season momentum with strong individual performances.

43rd Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic (Fri, Sep 20 - Sat, Sep 21): The Coyotes delivered season-best times on one of the most competitive stages in the state.

45th Annual Asics Clovis Invitational (Fri, Oct 11 - Sat, Oct 12): Racing at Woodward Park, the Coyotes previewed the CIF State Championship course with grit and determination.

Ventura County Championships (Sat, Oct 19): Against local rivals, the team displayed their depth and competitive spirit.

Marmonte League Finals (Thu, Nov 7): Facing tough league opponents, the Coyotes capped their league season with commendable individual efforts.

CIF-SS Finals and State Championships (Nov 23 and Nov 30): The season concluded with Sofia Francini advancing to the CIF Finals, marking a major milestone for the program.

Notable Performances

Sofia Francini’s consistent top finishes throughout the season have been instrumental in elevating the Calabasas XC program's profile. Her achievements have garnered recognition, including being named the Female Fall MVP by Calabasas High Athletics.

ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational: Sofia secured second place in the small school girls varsity race, clocking an impressive time of 17:37.9 for the 3-mile course, setting a new school record.

CIF-SS Finals Division 3: Francini finished inside the top 10 with a time of 18:00.2, punching her ticket to the CIF State Championships.

CIF State Cross Country Championships: Competing in the Division 3 girls' race, Sofia finished 10th with a time of 17:48.4 for the 5,000-meter course, marking the fastest time in Calabasas history.

As she transitions to track season, Sofia's commitment to excellence continues to inspire her teammates and set a high standard for future athletes at Calabasas High School.

Road Ahead

Looking forward, Sofia Francini aims to build on her record-breaking success and continue redefining the distance program at Calabasas High School. "My school is so heavily sprint-based. We have an amazing sprint program. Redefining the distance program and hopefully inspiring others to start running, that means a lot to me," she shared, reflecting on her vision for the future. Her leadership and determination not only set a high standard for the program but also inspired her teammates and aspiring runners to embrace the challenges of distance running.
